The one that was all about JC

Saturday 9: Voices Carry (1985)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

This song was chosen because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please share this link to The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Let's spread the word that there's help out there.

1) In this song, a woman is "hushed" by her lover. When were you last told to "keep it down?"
I have no idea.  Me?  Loud?  Oh wait.  It might have been... nah...  And completely aside - I read an old blog, and thought it would be fun to get back into it.  And what do I pick?  Saturday 9.  And what is special about THIS Saturday 9?  The video for the song "Voices Carry" was filmed in Boston.  I have friends in the music video.  Like when she is in the theater?  The guy sitting in front of her with the beard and the tux?  My good friend JC.  So good choice.... good choice....

2) Her lover tells her tears are something to hide. Researchers tell us that crying can be good for us, because by releasing emotional stress, it lessens physical stress on the cardiovascular system. Are you comfortable crying in front of other people?
Are we talking ugly cry, or weeping?  Aw hell, I don't care - if it's something to make me cry you're damn sure that everyone else around me is doing it too

3) In this video, the woman makes a scene by speaking up in a theater. Today theater goers are more likely to be disturbed by a cell phone ringing or its screen illuminating. Are you careful to turn your phone off in the theater, church, etc.?
Oh, see.  NOW I have to share a picture of it.. Isn't he a handsome devil?  And a great friend, one that you wish you had.  And John if you're reading this - holy shit your genes are strong, LOL..  Oh, and to answer the question?  Of course.  That's just rude.

4) When this group, Til Tuesday, was still struggling, Cyndi Lauper was already a star. Cyndi offered to record this song, which would have brought the group some fast cash, but only if they agreed not to record it themselves. Obviously they didn't take the deal. Tell us about a time you took a risk on yourself, and it paid off.
Moved to Michigan.
5) Til Tuesday's lead singer, Aimee Mann, went to Open High School in Richmond, Virginia. This charter high school is dedicated to helping students become "self-determined thinkers and learners." Do you recall your high school as permissive or regimented?
High School is dumb.  High school kids are dumb.  And not being one to hold a grudge usually?  Mimi Gibson was so mean to me.  I still hate her.  LOL

6) Aimee has been on the road through 2017 and, like most artists, sells tour merchandise. Her line includes reusable tote bags. Do you bring your own bag to the grocery store?
I love Trader Joe's.  I love TJ's bags.  I love the fact that one opened just a couple of miles from me.  I'm going there this morning - AND I will bring my own bag!

7) Aimee has tried her hand at acting and appeared on Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. From Dracula to Barnabas Collins to Lestat, vampires are a popular culture staple (especially in October). What do you suppose accounts for their enduring popularity?
I don't know.  I don't get it.  Now zombies - that's totally different.  I just finished Season Four of Game of Thrones.  The Walking Dead is my ride or die.

8) In 1985, when this song was popular, Bruce Springsteen was at the top of the charts with Born in the USA. A massive commercial success, Born in the USA has sold more than 15,000,000 copies in the United States alone. Is it in your collection?
Um, do you KNOW me???? Here.  Have a gander at my boyfriend.

9) Random question: In which race would you do better -- the Iditarod, with sled dogs in Nome, or speeding in a car at 200+ mph at the Indianapolis 500?
Indy 500...  'nuff said..

Why Do You Want To Know That Meme, part three

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from. We also provide a link to the victim's meme in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from this new meme or recently asked questions from a previously featured meme.  Cheers to all of us thieves!!!

Why Do You Want To Know That Meme, part three
Stolen from: Love me some surveys

50. What do you spend most of your money on?
Now this is kind of an ambiguous question.  Extra money?  Pay the bills money?  What money do you speak of?  If it's my pay the bills money, that's the mortgage.  If it's my extra money?  Depends.  Sometimes I like to pay it forward and donate it to the Indians.  Sometimes I buy clothes.  Listen, I don't have to justify myself to you.  Stop judging me!

51. Would you rather visit the past or the future?
Neither.  There is nothing in the past that I'd like to revisit - you can't have new conversations or change things, so what's the point?  Visiting with people that are gone?  Then the grief becomes new again.  And the future?  Jesus Christmas.  The that would change how I live today, depending on what I found

52. Favorite clothing store?
Right now?  Clothes Mentor.  Resale store.  Great stuff, not a lot of money  Bought a pair of jeans and 5-6 tops yesterday for $45.  Oh, and a Coach bag.  I'll admit it.  I'm a purse girl.  And it was $45 as well.  :)

53. What is the best advice you can give to those who are feeling down?
Hang in there - things will always get better.

54. How often do you think about your future? Does it scare you?
Live each day like it could be your last.  I don't worry about the future, or regret the past.

55. What angers you the most?
If you read the other blog, you'd know this.  LOL  People that prey on the weak and people that fuck with my kid.  Seriously?  I will fight for them, and make your life miserable.

56. When was the last time you got majorly angry?
Not sure.  I've been angry, disappointed, and just disgusted by things - but majorly angry?  I'm not sure.

57. When was the last time you got really sad?
Two of my good friends from high school lost their mothers this week.  That makes me really sad.  And then I think of how much my son missed by not having his grandmother around and that made me sad on top of being sad.

58. Are you good at lying?
Depends.  Do you need me to cover you for something?

59. What foreign language would you like to learn?
None, I'm too old for that shit.

60. How many languages can you speak and what are they?
I'm quite fluent in Pig Latin, Ubu-dubbi, sarcasm and bullshit.

61. How often do you go to parties? If you don’t, what do you do instead?
Partying like rock stars are for the 20-somethings.  Or 30-somethings.  But I like to hang out with friends.  That's fun.

62. What books do you plan to read this year?
Oh, I'm sorry - was I supposed to make a list?  What if they haven't been written yet?

63. Do you have breakfast every morning?
It may not always be before noon, but it IS the most important meal of the day!

64. Tell us a secret.
Really?  What are we?  12?

65. How many concerts have you been to?
I may stop answering these now..

66. Last hug?

67. Who knows you better than anyone else?
Prolly Kim.

68. Baths or showers?
Considering that I only have a shower, I'd have to say those.

69. Do you think you’re ambitious?

70. What song is stuck in your head?

71. Countries you’ve visited?
Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Greece, UK (England), Bahamas, Virgin Islands

72. What do you most value in your friends?
That they appreciate me

73. What helps you to sleep better?
the same things that allow me to look at myself in the mirror

74. What is the most money you have ever held in your hand?
I won $1500 at a slot machine on Christmas Eve.  How's that?

75. What makes you nervous?
I'm 50.  Nothing really makes me nervous any more.  For that, I'd have to give a shit about what people think of me.

Bring on 2016!

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Sleigh Ride (1993)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Have you ever ridden in a sleigh?
No, I've been in a horse-drawn carriage, though. On Mackinac Island - where there are no motorized vehicles allowed...  It's also where "Somewhere In Time" was filmed.

2) This recording is from Harry Connick Jr's best-selling CD, When My Heart Finds Christmas. This year, did you add any new holiday songs to your personal collection?
Nah, should I have?  BT dubs - Harry tweeted me once.  I asked him what his "go to" music was for a relaxing, sit back, have a glass of wine kind of night.  He tweeted me back and not only can I not find the tweet now, I can't remember who he said.  Smacks self in forehead...

3) Harry was born and raised in New Orleans, a city that seldom sees snow. Have you had enough snow to shovel so far this winter?
Surprisingly no!

4) Speaking of weather, Harry hosted a mini-series on The Weather Channel called 100 Biggest Weather Moments. Do you frequently check The Weather Channel?
Only when there is severe weather coming.  Otherwise our local guys do the job well enough  Oh, or if I'm traveling.  I like to know what I'm heading into LOL
5) Harry's mother was a very impressive woman -- a lawyer, judge and Louisiana Supreme Court justice. Tell us about someone in your family of whom you're very proud.
My niece.  She wrote a letter to my aunt, not knowing what to expect and just wanting to get to know her family on her father's side.  That had to have been so hard, and while there are other reasons I'm SO proud of her - taking that leap of faith is #1 in my book.  :)

 6)  Happy New Year! Now that Christmas is over, are you done with holiday music and decorations? Or are you sad to see the holidays end?
Bring on 2016!  I have plans for that bitch.....
7) The New Year's Eve fireworks celebration in Sydney, Australia is famous for coordinating pyrotechnics and music. Have you ever welcomed the New Year in another country?
Nope.

8) Do you have any New Year's Resolutions for 2016?
See the previous post on this, my all new and improved blog :)

9) Looking back on 2015, what surprised you?
Hmmmmm.... Lots.  But really, I wasn't surprised by much.

Happy New Year!

New Year, New Blog, New Attitude :)

Happy New Year!

I've decided that 2016 is going to be a year that I actually make and keep my resolutions.  With that being said - the old blog has been made private, shut down, whatever you want to call it.  I vented there.  A LOT.  And they were good vents, most of them at least.  LOL  But here is a list of resolutions...

1.  To learn to be like Frozen.  And let it gooooooooo let it gooooooooo let it gooooooooo...
I've made my points.  I've done all I can, and it's now "Not my circus, not my monkeys".

2.  I've got 22.5 lbs to get to my "goal" weight.  I've put on a few pounds since Thanksgiving, and they need to go.  I will not get back to where I was.  So I'm looking forward, and at being more healthy (or is it healthier?) - and part of that is losing that damn weight.  So I'm going to let that go as well.  :)

3.  Getting a new job.  I love working for the state, but I hate not having enough work to keep me challenged, or busy.  My brain is starting to atrophy.  I will stay with the state - but get a different job.  I think I applied for 3 this week.  I will keep applying and keep interviewing until the right one comes along.

4.  I'm going to finish painting the damn walls in my house.

5.  I'm going to start purging shit that I don't need any more, really, who needs bank statements from 1989?  LOL

6.  I'm going to be financially more responsible.  Make a budget.  Stick to it.  Get shit paid off.

That's enough, right?

Happy New Year!  Enjoy and be responsible tonight :)
